Google has just announced the most unexpected and welcoming news of 2025. Pixel 10 devices, via Android’s Quick Share, can now share files directly with Apple devices using iOS’ official AirDrop feature. This has introduced a surprising level of cooperation, despite Apple ‘s lack of direct involvement in the feature’s development.
Android’s Quick Share will soon be able to transfer files to an iPhone using AirDrop
Google has announced that the Pixel 10 devices’ Quick Share feature is now compatible with iPhone, iPad, and macOS devices. Owners of the Pixel devices should now be able to send files to Apple devices. However, the recipient must set their AirDrop visibility to be discoverable to anyone for up to 10 minutes. Once enabled, the device would be discoverable in the Quick Share menu, just like any other compatible Android device.
The tech giant has also revealed an early demonstration showing how seamlessly the feature works. It involves no extra step or third-party app installation and works as fluently as it would with any Android phone. As per the documentation, the process also works in reverse. iPhone users can now send files directly to the Pixel 10 devices.
The feature is coming soon for other Android devices
While the feature is currently limited to Pixel 10 devices, Google plans to extend the functionality to more devices in the future. The company adds that the feature is powered by a direct, peer-to-peer connection that avoids server routing. This prevents shared data from being logged or processed externally.
Google has also confirmed that Apple did not participate in the development of the feature. It engineered its own implementation and subjected it to internal reviews and third-party security testing. The firm, however, noted that it would be open to working with Apple to support features like Contacts Only mode in the future. It’s really good to see brands working on enhancing interoperability.
