Google added Calling Card for Android last year. If you’re an iPhone user, you already know this feature by the name Contact Poster. As the name suggests, it lets you customize how incoming calls appear on your phone. While it adds a personal touch to an otherwise boring calling screen, it lacks something that Apple offers. We’re talking about the ability to set up a card for yourself. Well, that could be changing soon as Android may soon bring this ability to Calling Card.

Android may finally let you set up your Calling Card soon

Back in October last year, it was reported that Google was working on addressing this limitation with the new “My Calling Card” option inside the Phone by Google app. As you’d expect, this would allow you to set up your own Calling Card, which would appear for other users when you call them. While the option was there, it wasn’t functional then.

Fast forward to now, new developments suggest that it’s inching closer to an official launch. Additionally, we also get to see how the feature will look. While digging through the Phone by Google ap p version 204.0.852029473, folks at Android Authority were able to activate My Calling Card entirely, while also discovering info on how to set it up for the first time.

The process is pretty straightforward

When it’s available, users will be able to find this within the Calling Card section of the Phone by Google app’s Settings page. Once you tap Create, you’ll see a welcome screen. Here, you will have to choose the Google account that you want to use. On the next page, you’ll have to pick an image from the gallery, camera, or Google Photos. You can customize the front and color, just like regular Calling Cards. Once done, you can preview the Calling Card.

You can choose who can see your Calling Card: everyone or only your contacts. This preview screen informs users that the image they’ve set may be cropped to fit different screens. Android Authority reports that if someone already has your number saved and customized your Calling Card on their phone, that version of your Calling Card will apparently surface when you call them. If they haven’t set up a Calling Card for you, the version you’ve set up will appear on their screen when you call them. This makes sense as it avoids any conflict.

Going by the depth of the information, it’s safe to assume that My Calling Card’s official launch is not far. We just hope Google doesn’t take too long to pull the plug.
