If you’ve ever used Android’s scrolling screenshots feature, then you know Google could stand to issue a fix or two that would make it a little more user-friendly and enjoyable to use. Google won’t be altering how the feature works, but it is going to improve it. The main question is when. Unfortunately, there’s no concrete date on that, but it seems that it might not be too far in the future.

For those who aren’t familiar with scrolling screenshots, it’s basically just a long screenshot. Its main purpose is to provide you with a screenshot that shows more of what’s on the page you’re taking a screenshot of. It actually can be extremely useful if you don’t want to take multiple screenshots of something you want to share with someone else. However, there’s one issue that Google thankfully seems to be addressing after a few years.

Android’s scrolling screenshots will stop saving two images after Google’s upcoming fix

The main issue with the scrolling screenshots is that if you take a scrolling screenshot, it saves that longer image along with the normal one. So you end up with two screenshots in your gallery folder instead of the one you intended to keep. This might not be a huge problem for someone who doesn’t use this feature a lot. For those who do, however, it becomes a mess with so many extra images littering your storage. This can really add up. Thankfully, Google is fixing this.

As reported by Android Authority, the current Canary release will only save the scrolling screenshot . The regular screenshot will get deleted right away. Since this is a Canary release, it might be a few months before we see this rolled out to the stable version of Android. If you want to check this feature out for yourself, though, you can load the latest Canary release onto your phone. If you want to give that a go, you can use the Android Flash Tool to get started. Users shouldn’t attempt this if they don’t want potential problems from an unreleased build of the OS. It also doesn’t work with all Android devices. Google does have a list of supported devices , however. So, you can check to see if yours works.
