In 2025, Apple announced the new iPhone Air. It debuted on September 9, 2025 alongside the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup. But interestingly, the iPhone Air does not use a number in its name. Which leads us to believe that it won’t be getting updated every single year like the rest of the iPhone lineup – sort of like the iPhone SE.

iPhone Air Price
The Apple iPhone Air is priced at $999, replacing the old price of the iPhone Pro model which moved up in price since it ditched the 128GB model. With the iPhone Air launching with 256GB of storage, this is not a bad price at all. And actually makes it $100 cheaper than the Galaxy S25 Edge.
This also puts it closer to the Pro models versus the base model in the iPhone 17 lineup, which makes sense when you check out the specs.
iPhone Air Updates
Here’s every update that has been pushed out to the iPhone Air since its inception.
- iOS 26.0.1 – Release on September 29, 2025
- iOS 26.1 – Released on November 3, 2025
- iOS 26.2 – Released on December 12, 2025
iPhone Air Design
The design of the iPhone Air is quite different compared to other iPhones. This iPhone introduces the new “plateau” that Apple is referring to for the camera bump. Essentially, allowing Apple to push more components into that plateau at the top of the device, to make it thinner and lighter.
This is also the most expensive iPhone to feature a single camera. Apple is using a 48-megapixel fusion camera here, to offer a sensor-cropped zoom of 2x.
While the rails are polished aluminum, which look quite nice with the contrast of the back colors. Those colors include Sky Blue, Light Gold, Cloud White, and Space Black.
Where can I buy the Apple iPhone Air?
You can purchase the iPhone Air starting on September 12 from virtually every retailer. Of course, the best place to buy your new iPhone is going to be Apple’s website. From Apple’s website, you can purchase the iPhone Air unlocked and pay it off in full. Or you can finance it through your carrier and take advantage of carrier deals through Apple, finance it with your Apple Card, or use the Apple iPhone Upgrade Program.
One of the big advantages to buying through Apple is that they open up at 8AM on launch day for iPhone pickup. So if you need your new iPhone right away, this is the best way to do it.
What carriers does the iPhone Air work on?
It should come as no surprise that the iPhone Air does work on all three major carrier networks in the US. That’s AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Obviously, that also means that it will work on all MVNOs. However, the only caveat here is that it does need to have eSIM support since the iPhone Air is once again eSIM only for the US. Since Apple has been going eSIM only in the US since the iPhone 14, this shouldn’t be a big deal, though.
What colors does the iPhone Air come in?
This year, the iPhone Air does come in four colors once again. But Apple has decided to ditch the usual clear color names like “Blue” and “Pink”. Here are the colors of the new iPhone Air:
- Sky Blue
- Light Gold
- Cloud White
- Space Black

What’s new with iPhone Air?
The iPhone Air is the thinnest iPhone that Apple has ever made, at just 5.6mm thin. This is also far thinner than Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge which is 5.9mm, and also larger than the iPhone Air.
Apple was able to outfit the iPhone Air with Ceramic Sheild 2, which allows for 4x better scratch resistance. It also includes 4x more resistance to cracks. Which is also being used on the backside of the iPhone Air. So you can use this phone caseless and not worry about breaking it.
Surprisingly, Apple did include ProMotion here, so you are getting a 120Hz LTPO display here. Which does help with battery life on that A19 Pro and the much smaller battery. Apple does note that the battery life should last about the same amount of time as the iPhone 16 Plus, which is honestly quite impressive.

Apple was also able to use 80% recycled titanium on the iPhone Air, continuing its pledge to be more environmentally conscious with its devices.
What cases are available for the iPhone Air?
Apple has a few new cases available for the iPhone Air, and so does virtually eveyr other case company. We’ll be updating this in the coming weeks with more cases, and releaseing our own Best Cases buying guide, so stay tuned.
Apple Bumper

Apple has finally brought back the bumper for the iPhone Air. A “case” that Apple first introduced with the iPhone 4 after antennagate. The whole point of this bumper is to help protect your iPhone Air, while keeping it thin and lightweight. As that is the whole point of this device.
Apple Clear Case

Apple also has a new clear case for the iPhone Air this year, so you can still show off the unique style of the iPhone Air while protecting it. Apple says that this case is super slim as well, measuring in at only 0.9mm thick.
Should you buy the iPhone Air?
Now the big question, should you upgrade this year? Well, if you’re coming from an iPhone 16 or even an iPhone 15, probably not. But if you’re on an iPhone 14 or older, then this is a good time to upgrade. That’s a pretty big upgrade from the iPhone 14 to iPhone Air.
But for anyone that is wanting a thinner and lighter phone, then the iPhone Air is definitely worth picking up.
