Huawei has managed to trump Apple for the first time ever to become the world’s number 1 smartwatch manufacturer . The information comes from Counterpoint Research, a research firm that published the numbers.
Apple has been pushed down to second place, as Huawei leads the smartwatch market
These numbers are for the second quarter of this year, by the way. As you can see in the graph below, Huawei managed to grab 21% of the market, while Apple is at 17%. Xiaomi is third-placed with 9%, and is followed by imoo with 7%, and Samsung with 6%. That leaves 40% of the market for everyone else.

That same graph above clearly shows that Huawei’s shipments grew by a staggering 52% YoY (Year-over-Year), so from the same period last year. Apple’s shipments fell by 3%, while Xiaomi grew by 38%. It’s still not close to Apple, however.
The fourth-largest smartwatch company now is imoo, a company that many of you probably never heard of. That company is mainly making smartwatches for kids, and it managed to grow its shipments by 21% YoY.
Samsung took fifth place, which won’t please the company’s leaders
Samsung is fifth-placed here, and its shipments fell by 3%, the same as Apple’s. All the other smartwatch manufacturers, combined, have seen a shipments decline of 8% YoY.
Counterpoint says that Huawei’s major achievement in the global wearable race has been driven by robust growth in China and strategic expansion in a number of other regions.
The graph that we included earlier in the article also shows you the order of things in Q2 2024. Back then, Apple was the top dog, while Huawei was second-placed. Xiaomi, imoo, and Samsung were tied in third place. Things changed quite a bit in a year, as you can see. It remains to be seen if this trend will continue.
