Apple likes to keep its branding simple and we can appreciate that. However, sometimes this can lead to some confusion. For example, there are multiple iPad Air models, but Apple doesn’t always explicitly state which year it was released. So, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Apple is hoping to tone down the confusion starting with Apple TV, which has undergone a rebrand .
Apple TV undergoes a rebrand
For those unfamiliar, the Apple TV brand refers to several things. First, there’s the actual physical device you connect to your TV. Then, there’s the Apple TV app that houses content from other streaming platforms. Then, there’s also Apple TV+ , which is Apple’s streaming subscription service.
However, Apple has decided to bring it all under one name as part of the Apple TV rebrand. Now, there is no more Apple TV+, just a simple Apple TV. Is this less confusing? We think it’s the opposite, since like we said, Apple TV refers to multiple products from the company. However, it is simpler. Plus, as 9to5Mac notes , most people refer to its as “Apple TV” anyway.
Also, in the past, Apple TV used to be a hub for users to discover content from other apps and platforms. However, Apple has started to push its own content, so this exercise in rebranding makes sense.
A sign of new hardware?
So, what’s the point of this consolidation? According to speculation, it is because Apple could be ready to refresh its Apple TV hardware. The latest rumors suggest that Apple could announce a bunch of new devices this week. The company won’t be hosting a big event, so the announcement could come in the form of a press release on Apple’s website.
We’re not sure what changes a new Apple TV could bring to the table, but it is due for an update . The last time Apple updated it was in 2022, so it has been about 3 years. In addition to a new Apple TV, Apple is also rumored to launch new M5 devices this week . This includes a new MacBook Pro, a new iPad Pro, and a new Vision Pro.
It’s already Tuesday, so if the announcement is happening, it should be soon.
