These days, our internet is honestly so fast that differences in speed become imperceptible. This doesn’t mean there are no differences; it’s just that sometimes they’re not big enough for us to really notice. That being said, all our phones come with support for WiFi, but in terms of performance, does the Apple iPhone fare better against Android ? That’s what Ookla set out to try and find out in its speed test .

Apple versus Android WiFi performance

If you’re the type that must get the fastest possible WiFi performance, then the winners are the Apple iPhone 17 series and the Google Pixel 10 Pro for Android. According to Ookla, Apple’s win is thanks to the use of the new N1 chip . For those unfamiliar, the N1 is a new proprietary wireless chip that debuted in the iPhone 17 series.

Unlike the C1, which handles cellular connectivity, the N1 is responsible for wireless connections like WiFi, Bluetooth, and more. The iPhone 17 managed to get a median download score of 329.56Mbps. However, Google’s Pixel 10 Pro edged it out with a median download speed of 335.33Mbps. But like we said earlier, the differences are negligible, and you probably won’t be able to tell the difference.

So, what about other phones? If you care more about upload speeds, the Xiaomi 15T Pro is the winner here. While most of us might focus more on download speeds, since that matters when it comes to watching videos, reading emails and messages, and streaming, upload speeds matter too. This is especially important for gaming. This is because when you’re sending a command in a game, like to attack, that’s where upload speeds come in.

As for Samsung phones, Ookla’s test found that the Galaxy S25 series had the lowest best-case latency. It scored 6ms in North America and 7ms in Europe. This is also another crucial aspect when it comes to gaming.

Different places, different experiences

That being said, it should be noted that the speeds you get will vary from region to region. Different internet service providers have different infrastructures set up. This means that while the Pixel 10 Pro fares well in median scores, there are some regions it might do better or worse in.

For example, Ookla found that the iPhone 17 scored the highest speeds in North America at 416.14Mbps. However, in the Gulf region, it was noticeably slower at 283.83Mbps. However, overall, these speeds are definitely an improvement over its predecessors.
