According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, he shared on X what he believes are the plans Apple has after its smart glasses . The post says, “The bigger deal for AirPods are the future models with cameras. Apple sees this as their core AI wearable, especially for those who won’t want to wear glasses.”
Gurman’s observations are also spot on. People who don’t wear glasses might not see the need or want to wear a pair of glasses, even if they are smarter. But earbuds? Everyone loves a pair of earbuds. However, the analyst does not mention how these built-in cameras will work or what kind of features they might unlock.
Grand plans for the AirPods
That being said, it’s not the first time we’re hearing about Apple wanting to expand the functionality of its AirPods. There have been rumors that the company wants to make the AirPods more than just a tool for music listening. We’re talking about including sensors such as a heart rate tracker .
This will turn the AirPods into some kind of health wearable, giving users an alternative to wearables like a smartwatch or fitness tracker. It’s actually not really a stretch of the imagination, either. There are already some earbuds that offer heart rate tracking. In fact, Apple’s Powerbeats Pro 2 comes with such a feature. So, for Apple to bake it into future AirPods is a very real possibility.
