Apple has introduced an upgraded version of its Vision Pro headset powered by the M5 chip . This is not the new generation but a refresh focused on internal performance and comfort improvements. The M5 SoC, which also powers the latest MacBook Pro and iPad Pro , replaces the M2 chip found in the original model. Importantly, the price remains consistent at $3,499 for the base model, available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage capacities.
Apple upgrades its Vision Pro with M5 chip
The M5 chip brings a significant boost in performance, particularly for tasks that rely on artificial intelligence. According to Apple, AI-powered features like generating a Persona or transforming regular photos into spatial scenes run up to 50% faster than the previous generation. This efficiency gain is thanks to the M5’s updated architecture. This includes a new 10-core GPU with enhanced support for hardware-accelerated features like ray tracing and mesh shading.

This processing power translates directly into visual fidelity. The M5 Vision Pro renders 10% more pixels on its high-resolution micro-OLED displays. So, you’ll get a sharper image and crisper text throughout the OS. Furthermore, the maximum refresh rate can now reach 120Hz, which significantly helps reduce motion blur, especially when viewing your physical surroundings or using Mac Virtual Display. The M5 works alongside the purpose-built R1 chip, which processes data from the 12 cameras, five sensors, and six microphones. This ensures the device streams images to the displays within a fast 12 milliseconds.
Comfort and battery life improvements
Beyond the chip upgrade, Apple addressed a common feedback point about comfort by including the new Dual Knit Band in the box. This band features both upper and lower straps. It adds a top strap for better balance, stability, and a more comfortable fit over long use periods. The band uses an intuitive dual-function Fit Dial, allowing users to make precise adjustments for their ideal fit.
The internal efficiency of the M5 chip also delivers a modest improvement to battery life. Apple now claims the headset supports up to two and a half hours of typical usage. You’ll also get up to three hours of video playback, an increase of about 30 minutes over the original model.

The upgraded Vision Pro launches alongside visionOS 26. The latter brings new spatial experiences like integrating widgets into your space, striking enhancements to Personas, and new Apple Intelligence features. With the M5, developers can create more advanced spatial and immersive experiences, including leveraging new support for popular game controllers like the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller.
The upgraded Vision Pro is already available for pre-order now in several countries. Apple will begin shipping on Wednesday, October 22.
