AT&T is in hot water at the moment, as customers affected by data breaches are entitled to compensation of up to $7,500. We’re referring to multiple data breaches that occurred over a period of time and affected millions of Americans.
AT&T has to pay millions due to data breaches; affected customers can claim up to $7,500
A $177 million class action settlement has been reached with AT&T, even though the company admitted to no wrongdoing. The first data breach was announced back in March last year, and the information from 2019-2021 was compromised. Approximately 734 million current and former customers were affected.
What was stolen? Names, addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, social security numbers, account passcodes, and billion account numbers, it is said. AT&T initially denied this breach, but then the stolen data surfaced on the dark web in March 2024.
The second breach was announced in July last year. Call and text records from specific time periods were stolen, and that refers to all AT&T cellular customers and customers of other carriers using AT&T’s network.
The settlement fund for the first breach is $149 million, while the settlement for the second breach is $28 million. The settlement was already approved, though that was a preliminary approval. The final approval hearing is scheduled for December 3, 2025.
This was AT&T’s statement following the initial approval: “While we deny the allegations in these lawsuits that we were responsible for these criminal acts, we have agreed to this settlement to avoid the expense and uncertainty of protracted litigation.”
You are eligible for the first settlement class if “you are a living person in the United States whose data elements (including any combination of names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, account passcodes, billing account numbers, and Social Security numbers) were included in the AT&T 1 Data Incident.”
You are eligible for the second settlement class if “you were an AT&T account owner, line user, or end user whose telephone numbers and related call/text records were involved in the AT&T 2 Data Incident.”
You’ll need to file your claim if you were affected by either data breach
In case you were affected by both data breaches, you are eligible to file claims for both incidents and could receive up to $7,500 in total compensation. If you are eligible for either of the two, you should have received an email notification from AT&T.
Do note that you have until November 18, 2025, to file your claim. You’ll need to gather documentation and file separate claims for the two breaches if you were affected by both. You can submit your claim via www.TelecomDataSettlement.com , where you’ll also need to upload the aforementioned documentation. Once you do that, you’ll get a confirmation number, and then you’ll have to wait, basically.
