CES 2026 has been a whirlwind of new tech, with some of the coolest devices we’ve seen in years making their way to the CES showroom floor . One of those pieces of tech is the pair of smart glasses made in partnership between ASUS and XREAL: The ASUS ROG XREAL R1 smart glasses. Unlike most of the smart glasses out there, these are designed with a single activity in mind, and that’s gaming. Obviously, you can use them with stuff you’d use other smart glasses for, like streaming video or even browsing the web, but they’re intended for gaming more than anything else, and that’s why we love them. This lets you take big-screen gaming to the next level by letting you access it anywhere. This is why we felt the ROG XREAL R1 was deserving of the Best of CES 2026 award .
With the ASUS ROG XREAL R1, you can play games on a 171-inch screen anywhere you want
The main draw of these smart glasses is the ability to plug them into your gaming platform of choice and play games on a massive 171-inch screen anywhere you want. Got your Switch 2 with you and want to play on the big screen? Not a problem. Plug the R1 into it, and boom, you have a huge, 171-inch screen in front of you now. There is likely no gamer on the planet who is going to say this wouldn’t be a cool thing to do.
In addition to the large screen, each micro OLED display has a 240Hz refresh rate. So gaming is going to look fluid as well. That means you shouldn’t experience any visual jank or latency in faster-paced games. They only weigh 91g, too. With that lightweight design, these are going to be extremely easy to carry around with you. And, wearing them for hours shouldn’t cause discomfort. You can use these with earbuds or headphones if you like, but they also have sound by Bose. That means you won’t need a personal audio device to enjoy your games. Though you might want some earbuds if you’re using these in public. Overall, these are going to be a really cool piece of tech for gamers.
