Legos are incredibly fun, and we’re sure that many of us grew up playing with those colorful plastic bricks. But this year, we decided to award Lego and its new Smart Bricks our Best of CES 2026 . We think it’s truly deserving of the award, especially given how they’ve managed to turn a relatively mundane toy into something worthy of the current generation.

When toys get smart

Lego has never been shy about improving on its offerings. The company’s series of Technic toys already takes things to the next level, especially for older builders who want something that can move. However, at CES 2026, Lego unveiled its next-generation innovation, the Smart Brick .

Each brick basically consists of a bunch of sensors, like accelerometers. It can also detect light and sound, and supports wireless charging and NFC . There’s even a tiny built-in speaker. Thankfully, Lego has decided to avoid all the AI hype with its new Smart Brick. Stuffing AI into its toys would seem like the obvious move here, but the company says it wants its focus to remain on actual physical play.

So, what does this Smart Brick do? The Smart Brick works with the combination of Lego’s other smart products, like the Smart Tag or Smart Minifigure. When you combine all of these together, it allows the Smart Brick to respond accordingly. During one of the company’s demonstrations, they attached the Smart Brick to a toy car.

Then, when they moved the car around to simulate driving and turning, the brick emitted the appropriate sounds. It’s actually pretty cool and opens the door up to more possibilities.

When is it available?
