Google’s Circle to Search is one such feature that made searching for things on the screen easier with a simple gesture. Google’s AI Mode is a smarter and more resourceful alternative to Search. It found a place under the search bar in the Google app on Android. This was followed by AI Mode being added to Circle to Search, initially with Samsung’s latest foldables and gradually to other Android devices. Despite this, Circle to Search defaulted to regular image search when asked any additional questions. However, that is reportedly changing now.
Circle to Search replaces standard image search with AI Mode
Circle to Search can now reportedly let you have a conversation with what’s on screen. This change is appearing in the Google app version 16.47.49. It introduces a new search bar at the bottom of Circle to Search results, which you can use for additional questions. There’s obviously Google’s Gemini at play here.
Though Google teased this back in July, it wasn’t here until now, at least. It continued showing a search bar at the top of the results, and typing anything would only show standard results, not AI. This is finally changing.

The change is now rolling out
Once this change is here, AI Mode automatically handles all your queries. Android Authority notes that this change aligns with their findings from June, in which AI Mode addressed queries. This should also strengthen the integration between Circle to Search and AI Mode. AI Mode also received features that’ll help students with their homework and research, like adding images to math or science problems, or just asking it about key events in history. With the search bar’s new placement in the Circle to Search, these tasks should get easier.
