Anthropic’s Claude model is a great tool. It performs just as well as other popular models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and even surpasses it in certain areas. However, it is far from perfect. In fact, one of the more annoying features of the Claude AI is that it lacks “memory” like ChatGPT. But that has changed with the latest update .
Claude AI updated with new memory function
What is memory? If you’ve ever interacted with ChatGPT, you might notice that it has the ability to recall your past conversations. This is actually pretty cool and helps the AI feel more “human.” It’s like talking to a friend and they can remember what you told them last week.
However, the Claude AI does not have a memory feature. This means that every conversation you start with it is basically starting from scratch. However, like we said, that has changed as Anthropic has announced it is introducing memory features to its AI model .
According to Anthropic, “With memory, Claude focuses on learning your professional context and work patterns to maximize productivity. It remembers your team’s processes, client needs, project details, and priorities. Sales teams keep client context across deals, product teams maintain specifications across sprints, and executives track initiatives without constantly rebuilding context.”
The company goes one step further by creating memories for each project. This means that Claude won’t have to draw from one massive memory database as each project is essentially self-contained. That being said, Anthropic says that the memory feature is optional. If you prefer Claude not to remember your conversations , you can disable the feature if you wish.
Anthropic did introduce a feature to paid users last month where they could prompt Claude to recall past chats . However, this memory feature will make it seamless. Unfortunately, the feature is only available to Team and Enterprise users for now, but we imagine it should eventually roll out to other users in the future.
Other changes we’d like to see
Anthropic bringing memory features to Claude is a good thing. It’s like they’re fixing one of the annoyances users had with it. However, we’re hoping that Anthropic would fix another issue with Claude, and that is message limits.
If you’ve ever used Claude, you might have encountered instances where you’re halfway through a conversation and it tells you that you have reached the limit for the chat. This means you’d have to start a new chat, which used to be a problem because Claude wouldn’t remember your previous conversations .
We’re not sure why Anthropic has these limitations and it’s downright annoying. So, hopefully that will be the next fix for the company.
