Listen, we’re still living in a world where 4K TVs and displays rule the mainstream. It might be a few more years before we start seriously considering higher resolutions as the new standard. But in case you’d like to futureproof yourself, then maybe the new Dreame Leaptic Cube action camera could be for you.

Dreame Leaptic Cube stuffs 8K into a compact action camera

Perhaps one of the most standout features of the Dreame Leaptic Cube is its ability to shoot video in 8K resolution . The majority of consumer-grade cameras out there tend to max out at 4K. Now, don’t get us wrong, 4K is still plenty for most people. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if many people actually choose to shoot in lower resolution, like Full HD or 2K, just to save on storage.

However, if you need to crop without losing quality or details, or futureproof your videos for YouTube in 2035, then 8K is the way to go. Do take note that shooting in 8K will cap your framerate at 30 fps. But if you prefer a smoother framerate over resolution, the Leaptic Cube also supports 4K video at 60 fps.

Apart from its 8K capabilities, other features of the camera include a 1/1.3-inch sensor coupled with a 155-degree wide-angle lens. It also features a 2.27-inch LCD touchscreen and a battery life of around 200 minutes. Also, to no one’s surprise, there is a 4nm AI CPU in the camera used for scene optimization, subject tracking, audio enhancements, and more.

The camera also comes with 64GB or 128GB of built-in storage. If you plan on shooting in 8K, that clearly won’t be sufficient. Thankfully, unlike our smartphones, you can expand on this via microSD with up to 1TB.

Pricing and availability?

Alas, Dreame has neglected to mention how much its new camera will cost, or when it will be released. It’s also going to be tough trying to gauge its price. Dreame is probably best known for its robot vacuums , with some models being priced rather affordably. However, the Leaptic Cube packs some serious hardware that could drive up its price.

Also, the action camera market has some stiff competition. There are a lot of established players like DJI, GoPro, and Insta360 . This means that in addition to its specs and features, Dreame will need to price the camera correctly if it hopes to dip its toes into the action camera waters successfully.
