Samsung’s Exynos chipsets have typically been viewed in a negative light. Especially when compared to the likes of Qualcomm and its flagship Snapdragon 8 series. However, the company has been working on making improvements, especially with what we’ve been hearing about the Exynos 2600. But according to the latest rumors, Samsung could disappoint us again. The latest rumors claim that the Exynos 2600 might not come with an integrated modem.
Exynos 2600 could come without modem
According to a report from Wccftech , there is a wild rumor making its rounds that the Exynos 2600 might not ship with a modem. This doesn’t mean that the phones powered by the chipset won’t have a modem, but rather, it will use a separate modem that isn’t integrated with the chip.
What does this mean for devices? Think of it like using an external hard drive or external GPU. While it’s functional, it won’t be as efficient compared to a hard drive or GPU that’s connected directly to your computer’s motherboard. This is the same situation here. So, there’s a chance the Exynos 2600 might not end up being as efficient as we would like.
That was actually one of the criticisms of past Exynos chipsets. Past benchmarks have found that battery life with Exynos chipsets aren’t as good as Qualcomm’s. This is kind of a waste, especially since the Exynos 2600 is rumored to be built on Samsung’s 2nm process.
One of the benefits of the 2nm process is that it is supposed to make chips more powerful and efficient. Samsung taking this route is a sure head scratcher.
What we know so far
Not much is known about the chipset so far. What we do know is that it is built on the 2nm process. This would make the Exynos 2600 one of the first few chips in the world to be built on the process. It would also beat out the likes of Qualcomm, Apple, and MediaTek, all of whom are expected to launch their own 2nm chips in 2026.
Mass production has also reportedly kicked off . There are also rumors that Samsung might be considering using it for the Galaxy S26 Ultra . It will be an interesting decision, but we’ll have to wait and see. The Galaxy S26 series are expected to debut in January 2026, so we’ll only have to wait a few more months to find out.
