Foldable phones aren’t new. For the past 6 years, we’ve seen many companies launch foldable phones of their own, but 2026 is going to be an exciting year. Why? Because for the first time ever, Apple will be dipping its toes into the foldables scene. Now, thanks to multiple sources, we have additional rumors about the specs and features of the upcoming foldable iPhone.
What we know so far
According to the latest rumors and reports from various sources, which includes analysts from JP Morgan and Ming-Chi Kuo, here’s what we know about the specs and features of the foldable iPhone.
For starters, and this is probably the biggest one, Apple has finally solved the crease problem that Samsung and other foldable makers have yet to fully eliminate. While Samsung will reportedly provide the displays to the foldable iPhone, it’s thanks to Apple’s own engineering and its other components that have resulted in what could be the first foldable smartphone without a crease. That represents a major breakthrough.
As for battery, Kuo claims that Apple will use high-density battery cells, but we’re not sure if he is referring to silicon carbon. Either way, the reported range is between 5,400mAh to 5,800mAh. This would make it the first iPhone to sport a battery size over 5,000mAh. However, we’re a bit skeptical about battery life. Foldable phones do consume more battery than regular phones, so best case scenario, it balances out. Worst case scenario, we end up with another iPhone Air situation.
Kuo also previously noted that Apple will use Touch ID for the foldable iPhone. The sensor is located on the side of the phone, which measures 9-9.5mm thick when closed. The phone is also reportedly 4.5mm-4.8mm thick when opened. This makes it slightly thicker than some of the competition out there. But honestly, it’s not a bad start for a first device.
How much will it cost, and when can we expect it
In terms of price, the foldable iPhone won’t come cheap. Foldables are already not cheap, but Apple is expected to take things to the next level. Recent reports suggest that it could cost around $2,400 . This makes it a lot more expensive compared to Samsung’s foldables. However, if the rumors of a crease-free display are true, maybe it could be justified.
As for a launch date, we’re hearing that a release in 2026 is likely. There are some rumors that claim it could be pushed to 2027, but nothing official has been confirmed yet. Either way, it’s best to take this with a grain of salt for now.
