The Samsung Galaxy S21 series phones are now getting the January 2026 Android security patch . This could very well be the last update that these smartphones will ever receive.
These three phones, the Galaxy S21 , Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra, were announced on January 14, 2021. They were promised to get three years of Android OS updates and five years of security updates.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 series has just received its very last update
While the Android OS upgrades train left the station a couple of years ago, the security patches kept on coming, until now. We’re currently in January 2026, five years away from the launch of these phones.
There is always a chance that Samsung will release a hotfix update or something like that in the future, but regular security support won’t be coming anymore. So, if you do own one of the Galaxy S21 phones, it may be a good time to upgrade.
With that being said, this update delivers 55 security patches to the devices. 23 of those come from Google, even though two of them are not related to Samsung phones. Samsung Semiconductor added 4 fixes, while 30 of them have been provided by Samsung Mobile.
Samsung marked 1 fix as critical, while 28 of them have been marked as high-risk. Three patches are said to be moderate-risk ones. The update’s rollout started in South Korea, Samsung’s homeland. No surprise there.
You’ll get the update soon, even though the rollout started in Korea
The thing is, this update will spread to other markets within days, so it may already be in your region by the time you’re reading this. Even when it arrives to your region, it will roll out in stages, so you may have to be patient.
You can try to speed up the process by going to Settings -> Software updates -> Download and install, but that doesn’t guarantee anything. Your phone will let you know once the update is available.
