Samsung has officially kicked off its software maintenance schedule for the new year, starting with its latest non-foldable flagship phones. If you own a device in the Galaxy S25 series, you can now download the January 2026 security patch.

The rollout began in South Korea, following a familiar Samsung pattern. The firmware is reaching the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ , Galaxy S25 Ultra , and even the Galaxy S25 FE . While it is not a feature-heavy update like the recent One UI 8.5 beta, it’s an important one to keep the hardware secure and running smoothly.

Samsung Galaxy S25 devices receive January 2026 patch

There are 55 security holes that this month’s patch fixes. Google developed 23 patches to the Android core as part of a collaborative effort. Samsung, on the other hand, gave the remaining 32, focusing on its own hardware and software parts.

Samsung has marked one of these 55 vulnerabilities as critical and 28 as high-risk. People often don’t notice these updates because they don’t change how the phone looks. But they keep you safe from possible exploits that could harm your device or steal your personal information.

Who gets It first?

The update with the January 2026 security patch carries a firmware version ending in “BYLR.” For those participating in the One UI 8.5 beta program, you might have already noticed these security fixes bundled with your latest beta build. However, the latest update is aimed at those users running the stable version of One UI 8.

How to update

Your phone will eventually notify you that an update is ready. But you can manually check it to get the fixes as soon as they are available in your region. Simply navigate to Settings, scroll down to Software update, and select Download and install.

It is always a good idea to perform these updates while connected to Wi-Fi and with at least 50% battery life. Although the file size is relatively modest compared to a full OS upgrade, keeping your device updated is the simplest way to ensure your flagship experience remains as secure as it was on day one.
