Samsung ‘s next-gen “Ultra” flagship phone could bring some of the most exciting improvements to the Galaxy S series in years. There’s been speculation lately about a new, larger 200MP main sensor, possibly from Sony . If true, this would naturally lead to a more prominent rear camera bump. Well, a fresh leak has just added weight to those previous speculations, revealing details about the camera bump thickness and weight of the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra .
Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra tipped to have a massive camera bump
The latest bits of information come from the reliable tech tipster Ice Universe on X/Twitter. According to their post, the Galaxy S26 Ultra could sport a camera bump that measures a whopping 4.5mm. If true, it would be a significant jump from the S25 Ultra’s already substantial 2.4mm. So, we’re talking about a camera bump potentially almost twice as thick as its predecessor.
As previously said, this increase is reportedly due to a new, larger main camera. Also to make room for an upgraded telephoto lens.

However, the bigger bump may come with a disappointing detail. The same leak suggests that despite the added thickness, the telephoto lens will still use a relatively small 1/2.52″ 50MP sensor. This could make the S26 Ultra’s telephoto sensor the smallest on a global flagship phone by 2026. The potential decision raises questions about Samsung’s priorities, especially given the trend toward larger and more powerful camera components.
It will be a “light” phone for its dimensions
The increased thickness isn’t just for the cameras, either. The device is also said to weigh 217 grams , which is on the lighter side for a phone with these rumored specs.
So, why would Samsung make the camera bump so much bigger without a significant upgrade to the telephoto sensor? The main reason would be to integrate the potentially new, larger sensor. Then there’s the possibility that the company is laying the groundwork for future camera technology, preparing the design for even larger and more powerful sensors down the line.
Regardless of the reason, it seems increasingly clear that Samsung is ready to embrace a much more pronounced camera design with the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Whether the performance justifies the size is a debate that fans will have to settle in the future.
