Samsung appears to be preparing the ground for a major camera upgrade on its next book-style foldable device. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8’s camera specs leak suggests upgrades to not one but two cameras over its predecessor. This is a welcome move, considering Galaxy Z Fold 7 this year replaced the 50MP main sensor from its predecessor with a larger 200MP lens. It could be a move to outshine Apple’s first-ever foldable iPhone, which, as per the latest rumors, is still on track for a 2026 launch.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8’s camera specs leak

GalaxyClub report notes that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 has the codename Q8. It adds that the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s 12MP ultrawide lens will be replaced by a larger 50MP lens, which should bring improvements to the image quality. It’s possible it could be the same 50MP camera found on the Galaxy S25 Ultra for wide-angle shots.

Besides this, the telephoto sensor will also reportedly see the same upgrade that we will apparently soon see in the Galaxy S26 series. The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8’s telephoto lens will reportedly jump from a 10MP lens to a 12MP sensor. However, the optical zoom will still be 3x, as per the report.

The selfie camera sorrows

Unfortunately, the good news ends here. The 200MP primary rear camera, the 10MP front-facing, and a 10MP cover camera will reportedly remain unchanged. That’s a little disappointing, considering Samsung started using a 12MP selfie camera on its S-series flagships since the Galaxy S23. But then, this could be a compromise that Samsung made to keep the price under $2,000.

Besides the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8, folks at GalaxyClub shed light on “other” 2026 Galaxy foldable, which could be the rumored wider version of the Galaxy Z Fold 8. This reportedly has a codename H8. The phone will also reportedly get the same 50MP ultrawide camera treatment as the Galaxy Z Fold 8. But then this negates the theory that what we’re seeing here could be an inexpensive Galaxy Z Fold 8 FE. We’ll probably need more on the phone to conclude.
