Samsung had to achieve quite a few engineering firsts with its first Galaxy Z TriFold device , and that includes the fingerprint sensor. Samsung’s partner, Goodix, which provides quite a few components for the TriFold, has released some details on the components , including the fingerprint sensor, which is the narrowest in the industry.
The fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy Z TriFold is just 1.65mm wide. That makes it the narrowest fingerprint reader in the industry. Samsung needed a very narrow fingerprint sensor to fit into the 4mm frame of the Galaxy Z TriFold.
Goodix also designed the most advanced touchscreen panels for the Galaxy Z TriFold. That includes the main and sub touchscreen controller that is used in the tri-folding phone. It’s a customized solution, as you might expect, seeing as there’s really only one other tri-fold device on the market – the Huawei Mate XT .

Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold goes on sale in Korea this week
The Galaxy Z TriFold is set to go on sale later this week in Korea – on December 12, to be exact. It’s going to be priced at ₩3,594,000 KRW which is about $2,450 USD when converted. Obviously, more expensive than the Galaxy Z Fold 7, since it is boasting newer technology and components.
2026 could be the year of tri-folding smartphones. We’ve already seen a few prototypes from other companies like TECNO , which showed one off at Mobile World Congress Barcelona this year. Though no one was able to touch it, as it was behind glass. It is still real, which is the first step.
Tri-folding devices are the next step, providing us with a true tablet in our pocket, versus a square display.
