Google Chat finally gains the Message scheduling feature. This will allow you to send messages at a later time or date . This has been the most-requested feature, as platforms like Google Messages, iMessage, Telegram, and other messaging apps have long offered message scheduling. This will allow for more productive communication.

Google Chat receives long-awaited message scheduling

Gmail already lets you schedule emails, and now Google Chat will soon let you do the same for messages. To schedule a message, draft the message like you normally would, and click the new down arrow icon next to the send button. It will show the option to select a time and schedule the message up to 120 days in the future. Once you schedule a message, that particular conversation will be marked with a banner above the compose box.

“ By scheduling messages, Chat users can be respectful of colleagues’ time and avoid sending messages late at night or early in the morning when recipients may be in a different time zone or unavailable ,” said Google in a blog post .

There’s also a new Draft shortcut in the left-aligned sidebar; clicking this will open a dedicated area where you can manage all scheduled messages. Users can edit, reschedule, or cancel them. Google says that the Draft shortcut is only available when there are scheduled messages. You can also access this space by clicking the banner above the compose box.

Besides scheduling, Google Chat is adding a new way to access Chat: the chat.google.com website from your browser. Google reportedly says that this is a new way of getting to Chat, and loads faster, while retaining the same UI as before. The old ways of getting to Chat via Gmail still work, though.
