There are a lot of flashy new apps launching these days, but sometimes, you just need something that works. Something that’s reliable, and one that you can use daily. If you’re the type that sets alarms on their phone to wake up for work or school, you’re in luck because the Google Clock has been updated with new ways to dismiss alarms .
Google Clock has new ways to dismiss your alarms
According to PhoneArena, it looks like Google has released a new update for its clock app. This bumps Google Clock up to version 8.5, which also includes a new way for users to dismiss their alarms. With this new option, which you can find in Settings, you can choose between swiping or tapping to dismiss an alarm.
It’s not exactly a groundbreaking feature, nor is this exactly a game-changer either. However, it is what we call a quality of life update . By giving users the option to choose how to dismiss their alarms, it makes it easier. We know there are times when the alarm goes off and you’re half awake. You reach for your phone but yet can’t find a way to get it to stop.
With this update, you can choose between swiping or tapping, whichever you find the most convenient. If one doesn’t work, then just try the other, it’s really that simple.
If you opt for Tap to dismiss, when the alarm goes off, you’ll see two buttons. Snooze is on the left, while Stop is on the right. If you choose Swipe to dismiss, you can swipe left to snooze, or swipe right to stop.

Is the update available?
Yes, right now Google Clock 8.5 is available for download via the Play Store . However, as PhoneArena notes, the new way to dismiss your alarm is a server-side update. This means that you’ll have to wait for Google to turn it on for your device in order to access it. Just make sure you have the latest version installed and you should see the new feature soon.
You can check if it’s available by tapping on the three-dot icon on the right and go to Settings. If there’s a “Dismiss alarm with a “ preference, that means you have it. Otherwise, just remain patient.
