The Google Pixel 9 is a great phone, but is it perfect? Not quite. Like many other Pixel phones before it, it suffers from display-related issues for some unlucky customers. The good news is that if you own a Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL, Google has announced that these phones are eligible for an extended repair program .

Pixel 9 Pro gets extended repair program

According to Google , they have “ determined that a limited number of Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL devices may experience issues that affect the functionality of the device .” So, what does this mean? Basically, this Pixel 9 Pro extended repair program will offer coverage for 3 years after the original purchase date.

That’s good news, especially since most companies usually only offer a 1-year limited warranty. However, there are some caveats that you should take note of. For starters, Google says that devices that have cracked displays or cover glass could be disqualified. Also, liquid intrusion could also affect eligibility.

Lastly, the extended repair program is also very specific about the type of damage. It only covers issues like a “vertical line on the display” and that “ it must run from bottom to top .” If your Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL is experiencing display flickering, you’re covered as well. Essentially, Google is limiting the scope of this repair program to only cover very specific display-related issues. If, for whatever reason, your device is rejected, you can still opt to get it fixed, albeit with a fee.

When do repairs become available?

Google says that repairs for the vertical line display issues will begin on December 8, 2025. Customers with affected devices can go to a Google walk-in center or authorized center. Online repairs are also available. This program also extends to customers in Taiwan, Mexico, and Malaysia, where they find an authorized repair partner from Google’s website .

Take note that Google says that devices will need to be inspected first to determine eligibility. If your device meets the requirements, you will get a display replacement for free. As for those who might have gotten it fixed out of their own pocket from an authorized repair center, Google may contact you directly.
