Google has filed an appeal against the ruling that declared its search business is a monopoly. The company is asking the court to pause the required changes while the legal proceedings play out.

This is an expected move from Google. The company announced it will file an appeal, and that just happened. Google wants the court to suspend the “ remedies ”, while the appeal process plays out.

Google appealed the monopoly ruling and says that sharing search data is unfair & creates a privacy risk

Google is especially adamant not to share its search data and results with rival search engines. That’s one of the remedies that the court threw in Google’s lap last year. Google argued several times thus far that it’s unfair.

The company says that the requirement to share data creates privacy concerns for users, while being unfair to the company. On top of that, Google says that it will go against the grain of innovation from other companies.

Google once again reiterated that users choose Google because they want to, not because they’re forced to do it. The company also said that other browser makers use Google Search because it offers the best experience.

DOJ’s remedy requirements were much worse for Google

With that being said, many think that Google got off easy with said remedies. The Department of Justice (DOJ) originally required a lot more extreme remedies , including selling off Chrome . That’s not something the court required Google to do.

If Google succeeds in its intent, and this appeal bears fruit, it will leave the legal proceedings more or less unscathed. On the flip side, if it doesn’t, it’ll have to share its data with the competitors and follow through with all the other remedies. Well, if the court decides so.

The result of this appeal could go in a number of different directions. The company could end up canceling one of the remedies, while others end up sticking. It remains to be seen. Either way, we’ll keep you posted.
