Google and Walmart are teaming up to make your shopping experience more intuitive and reliable through AI. Both companies will launch a new experience that combines the intelligence of Google’s Gemini with Walmart and its warehouse club, Sam’s Club. This experience will first start in the US and expand internationally.

Walmart and Google will launch a new shopping experience powered by Gemini AI

Neither company shared when the feature would launch exactly nor the financial terms . The new experience, built by Walmart and accessible directly within Gemini using the Universal Commerce Protocol , addresses several key customer needs. Gemini will automatically include Walmart and Sam’s Club in-store and online products when they’re relevant. For instance, when a customer asks about campaign equipment for the spring season, it will surface items from the retailer’s inventory.

As users talk back-and-forth with Gemini, they would see more relevant products and services throughout the conversation. When customers find items in Gemini, Walmart comes in and helps make the purchase experience seamless within the familiar Walmart and Sam’s Club environments.

It has its own AI chatbot, Sparky

There are additional perks when users link their accounts. Walmart will recommend complementary items based on their past purchases. It’ll provide the benefits of their Walmart+ and Sam’s Club memberships and more. Walmart also says customers will benefit from fast deliveries, with thousands of products delivered in under three hours and as fast as 30 minutes.

The companies have announced this deal on stage at the National Retail Federation’s Big Show. This is an annual industry conference that took place in New York. This isn’t the first time that Walmart has teamed up with an AI company. Back in October, it announced a deal with OpenAI to allow shoppers to make purchases directly within ChatGPT.

Walmart has an AI chatbot of its own, called Sparky. This is a yellow smiley-faced assistant. This helps customers find products fast, offers review summaries, and provides facts.
