During The Android Show XR Edition, which you can check out below, Google announced 3 new Galaxy XR features that we already talked about. In addition to that, Google also laid out plans for three different types of smart glasses .

Google seems to be working on three different types of smart glasses
Google seems to be betting on a range of smart eyewear that people will want to wear on a daily basis. So, let’s take it one step at a time, starting with the audio-only smart glasses that Google is planning.
These glasses are expected to arrive next year, in 2026. They are supposed to be simple, hands-free assistant glasses. You’ll be able to connect them to your phone wirelessly. They’ll look like regular glasses, but have interesting features.
Speakers will be built in, as will the microphones, which will allow you to interact with Gemini . Cameras will also be built into these glasses, and thus allow Gemini to see what you see. That way, Google’s AI will be more capable at assisting you. There will be no display in these glasses, though.
The second glasses that Google is planning are the monocular glasses. These are also expected to arrive in 2026, and these will include a display over one lens… a discreet one. You can see the demo of this below, which includes YouTube Music controls, turn-by-turn navigation in Maps, and more.

The company is working with several companies
Back during Google I/O, the company did mention that it’s designing these styles with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, while it’s also collaborating with Samsung, of course.
The last pair of eyewear we’ll talk about are the binocular XR glasses with dual micro-displays. They will have a screen for each eye and will be able to render depth, thus enabling true mixed-reality visuals, while not being a hefty headset.
It’s not entirely clear when these glasses will become a reality, but Android Authority expects them to arrive in 2027… possibly.
