Google is finally doing what we’ve been begging for years. The company is working on syncing Do Not Disturb across all of your Android devices. That means when you silence your phone, your tablet shuts up too. Revolutionary stuff, right?

Look, we love Android around here. But sometimes Google makes us scratch our heads, wondering why certain features take so long to arrive. Apple has offered synced Focus modes across iPhones, iPads, and Macs for years now. Meanwhile, Android users have been stuck manually toggling DND on each device like it’s 2015.

The folks over at Android Authority dug through Google Play Services version 26.02.31 and found some juicy code strings. The discovery points to a system-wide toggle that will sync your Do Not Disturb status across every Android device signed into your account. Phones, tablets, and potentially even Chromebooks could all go silent with a single tap.

Where will this feature live?

According to the teardown, the DND sync toggle will appear inside the cross-device services menu. This is the same spot where you’ll find Call Casting and Internet Sharing. Google has been steadily building out this section, and it’s becoming the central hub for making your Android devices actually talk to each other.

Now, some of you might be thinking, “Doesn’t Wear OS already do this?” You’re not wrong. The Pixel Watch can mirror Do Not Disturb with your Pixel phone. But here’s the catch – you have to manually set it up through the Pixel Watch app. It’s clunky and far from automatic. This new implementation looks like it’ll work seamlessly across your entire device ecosystem without jumping through hoops.

That’s not all Google is cooking up

The same teardown revealed code strings for Universal Clipboard. Yes, you’ll finally be able to copy something on your phone and paste it on your tablet. Again, this is something Apple users have enjoyed for ages, but we’ll take it. The feature is expected to debut alongside Android 17.

Google is also continuing work on task handoff, which would let you resume activities across devices. Imagine starting an article on your phone during your commute and picking it right back up on your tablet when you get home. All of these features will apparently live under the same cross-device and handoff umbrella in settings.

Here’s where we pump the brakes a bit. This information comes from an APK teardown, which means it’s based on work-in-progress code. There’s always a chance these features get delayed or scrapped entirely. Google has been known to tease features that never see the light of day.

That said, the code strings are pretty clear about what Google is building. With Android 17 on the horizon and cross-device services becoming a bigger focus, there’s a good chance we’ll see DND sync roll out sooner rather than later. Your notification chaos across multiple devices might finally be coming to an end.
