In an effort to teach young students about the real world and the practical uses of AI, Google has launched AI Quests. This is a process to normalize the faster-growing technology among the next generation. AI Quests is a series of interactive online games for students between 11 and 14 years. It educates how Google is applying AI to address health, climate, and other challenges.
Google AI Quests are an engaging activity for students
Google notes that the goal here is to inspire the next generation on how they can use AI to bring a positive impact in the world, and not just use the technology . It’s Google’s latest effort around “AI literacy in classrooms.” Google Research, in association with Stanford Accelerator for Learning, designed the Google AI Quests program for students.
The quests are set in a fantasy realm, and students get a virtual mentor, Dr. Skye. The first quest, called Market Marshes, is based on Google’s Flood Forecasting research project. In this, students will have to track variables like rainfall and river flow. They’ll have to train the AI model to help in-game characters make accurate flood predictions. More Quests on the way
There are two more quests, one that focuses on the detection of an eye disease, and the other is based on Google’s brain-mapping research. These will launch in the coming months, as per Google. Gamifying AI is a smart move from Google, as it transforms AI from an abstract concept into an engaging activity for students.
As AI developers race to put their tools into the hands of wider consumers, it only makes sense to turn to students since they are more receptive towards new products compared to the yesteryear generation. Google, last month, gave away free access to its AI Pro plan to college students in select countries. There are similar efforts from Grammarly, Anthropic, OpenAI, and Perplexity.
