Google Maps will soon get a much-needed feature, allowing its users to delete all of their incident reports at once. It is arguably the world’s most popular navigation app , and the new feature is set to improve user control over shared navigation data. The app depends heavily on community input to show crashes, hazards, and road issues in real time. However, until now, the users did not have any option to manage submissions after posting them. That finally seems to be changing now.

Google Maps is testing a new delete option for incident reports

An APK teardown done by Android Authority of the Google Maps Android app version 26.04.01 suggests the company is working on a much-awaited feature. The string code reveals a new hidden setting that would allow users to remove all active contributions linked to their account. This includes incident alerts, road conditions, transit delays, and trip-related problems. Instead of editing single entries, the users could use the option to perform a full reset.

As of right now, Google Maps doesn’t let its users manually remove reported incidents. The reports vanish only when other users confirm or deny them over time. This can become frustrating, especially when someone submits a report by mistake. A wrong tap while driving could leave an incorrect alert visible and potentially disturb traffic. The under-development delete option finally seems to be addressing the issue. However, it has its own limits.

The tech giant is also exploring profile section changes

One of the biggest downsides of the under-development delete option is that it doesn’t yet allow users to remove individual reports. The lack of flexibility may still concern users who value accuracy. The new option would appear under Settings, within Location and Privacy. Once selected, all live contributions from that user would no longer be tied to their profile. However, the reports will remain visible until they expire.

Moreover, Google is also working on small profile updates in the Contribute tab. The updated UI page brings a new header design. Furthermore, do note that none of the features are live yet, and teardown discoveries do not always reach stable release.
