Google’s short-lived cloud gaming service, Stadia, didn’t see the success the company would have wanted. The project was announced grandly towards the end of 2019, but ultimately came to an end at the beginning of 2023. It appears that Google is now removing the last of its remains. As we approach the third anniversary of Stadia’s death, the website to convert the controller to Bluetooth-only mode appears to be nearing its end . This time, possibly for real.
The Stadia controller converter website seems to be nearing its death
To jog your memory, ahead of the shutdown on January 19th, 2023, Google opened up a web-based tool that can convert a Stadia controller from Wi-Fi mode to Bluetooth-only mode. This allowed Stadia’s only true hardware to take another life as a wireless controller for PCs, smartphones , and more. While it’s not perfect, it did the job. For reasons best known to Google, the conversion tool had an end-of-life.
The tool was originally set to be taken down at the end of 2023, giving the owners a good few months to convert their controllers after the project’s shutdown. However, Google extended it for another year through the end of 2024. When that deadline was approaching, Google once again extended it through the end of 2025.

Convert your controllers right away
However, it seems like the website to convert your Stadia controller is nearing its death for real this time. In the past, Google announced extensions on December 15th and December 9th, respectively. With just a few hours left for the end of 2025, Google still says that the “Stadia Bluetooth mode” website will be available until December 31st, 2025. This suggests that Google is taking down the tool later this week for good this time around.
While it’s possible that the tech giant could change the timeline again, it sounds unlikely. With that in mind, it’s time to convert your Stadia controllers to Bluetooth mode right away. The process will only take a few minutes, and it makes the hardware live on for years. For what it’s worth, Steam recently upgraded Stadia controller support.
