Google is always trying out new things with its core applications, enhancing the experience of using them. In one such move, Google Messages recently rolled out new tweaks to the camera and gallery interface on Android . Now, in the latest move, Google Messages is reportedly testing a new long-press menu for text and image actions.

This is a shift from the current design, where there is a toolbar at the top of the screen that surfaces three actions. The rest of them are neatly tucked away in an overflow menu. This design is now apparently changing. When you long-press on a message or image, Google will now show a floating menu for you to perform desired actions.

This floating menu contains Remix, Reply, Forward, Copy (text), Star, Delete, Select more, Info, and Save (photos) options. Google will reportedly partially center the text or image with a bouncy animation and haptic feedback.

Google appears to be modernizing the Messages experience

There’s an icon at the front accompanying each action. Google Messages prominently blurs the background layer when the long-press menu appears. The row with emojis and the “Create” shortcut is still here. Google seems to be modernizing its Messages platform, as the experience, in a way, is similar to what you see when you long-press a text message or image in apps like WhatsApp.

9to5Google reports seeing this roll out with beta version 20251212_00_RC01 of Google Messages following a server-side update. When this will be widely available to more users is not clear at the moment, but it shouldn’t be too long.
