Google Photos is a pretty great app that’s constantly receiving updates to refine the experience. Recent findings showed that the app’s backup settings page will receive the Material 3 Expressive makeover, and the most-requested Backup schedule could be in the mix as well. It appears that there’s still something more. Google Photos is reportedly working on the ability to let you adjust video playback speed .
Google Photos may get a video playback speed option soon
Folks at Android Authority have managed to enable the ability to adjust playback speed within Google Photos v7.58. This is a feature that’s currently missing and is apparently the most requested. This is similar to what you see on YouTube and some other streaming platforms. Currently, you can only jump to any portion of the video using the playback slider or seek through it by swiping left or right. Google appears to be working on adding playback speed next.
Once it’s available, when users play a video, they can adjust the video speed by selecting the “Playback speed” option from the three-dot menu on the top right. This will reportedly open a bottom sheet with multiple speed options, including 0.25x, 0.5x, 1x, 1.5x, and 2x. You can adjust the speed as per the requirement.

Immersive Photos view
In addition to this, Google is also reportedly working on a new toggle to allow users to show/hide dates from the Photos view. There’s the new “Show dates in Grid” toggle that will be available in the Photos View. Users can reportedly access by tapping the three-dot menu that appears in the top right.
Turning off that will offer a more immersive grid view of your photos without date separators. While it could be a neat addition, you lose the ability to bulk select photos and videos taken on a specific date. Though the toggle is visible, the feature doesn’t seem to be working currently. When these features will be available is not clear yet.
