Google wants its Photos app to evolve beyond a basic media storage app. In the latest update, the company has added a new AI-powered creative editing tool, Remix, to the Google Photos app. Using this new feature, users can transform static and familiar images into playful new versions.
Google Photos gets an AI-powered Remix feature
The new Remix feature introduces a set of AI options that allow users to stylize their images in ways that feel fresh and entertaining. As of right now, the tool brings four different options: 3D animation, Anime, Sketch, and Comic book. Each option applies a distinct style that changes the look and feel of an image. Moreover, the tool aims to provide a light-hearted and fun-oriented result. Therefore, don’t expect the output to be very realistic and professional.
Although the feature debuted a few weeks ago, it was initially limited to a small group of users. It is now rolling out widely to stable users in the United States and select regions worldwide. Residents of Argentina, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and Turkey should now have access. Users can find Remix under the app’s “Create new” area, alongside other tools for animations, films, collages, and highlight reels.
Google wants the Photos app to become more user-friendly and intuitive
As said earlier, Google wants the Photos app to be more than just a simple media manager. It wants the app to become a platform that encourages playful exploration. Remix reflects this direction. While it doesn’t provide any essential functionality, it gives users an easy way to generate fun, imaginative versions of their images.
Google has also been adding other creative tools recently, including options for turning photos into stickers or creating animated videos. Further, the company is presenting Remix as one more way to make personal media feel fresh. All this addition shows the tech giant’s ongoing effort to expand AI-powered features within the app.
