However, after the update, the Play Store is now smarter. It will show you apps where the show is actually available on. In today’s streaming landscape , many companies love their exclusives. This makes it tricky if you’re trying to figure out which platform the show is available on, but this change should simplify that.
For instance, “The Last of Us” is available on HBO Max, but it is also available on other platforms like YouTube TV and Prime Video. So, if you want to watch the show, you can download any of these apps to watch it. But one thing to note is that this is where Google kind of falls short.
Streaming services like YouTube TV and HBO Max require a subscription. Prime Video, on the other hand, offers some shows for free, but you might need a full subscription to unlock everything else. Google does not mention any of this in the updated search results. This means that even after you download the app, you might not be able to watch it unless you have an active subscription.
This isn’t Google’s fault entirely. How is Google supposed to know if you have a subscription or not, right? However, it’s something to take note of once this feature goes live.
