A lot of Google’s products and services are free in the sense that you don’t have to pay money for it upfront. Of course, in exchange, Google serves up ads which is where it generates most of its revenue from. Luckily, Google says there are no plans to put ads in the Gemini , at least for now.
Google has no plans to put ads in Gemini
This is according to a post on X by Dan Taylor , Google’s VP of Global Ads. Taylor’s post was made in response to a recent exclusive report from AdWeek . The post claimed that Google is expected to bring ads to its Gemini in 2026. The report claimed that Google reps have told some of its advertising clients that ads for Gemini are targeted for 2026, however they stopped short of mentioning formatting and pricing.
However, Taylor has since refuted those claims, saying that there are no plans to put ads in Gemini. “This story is based on uninformed, anonymous sources who are making inaccurate claims. There are no ads in the Gemini app and there are no current plans to change that.” His statement was also supported by Google’s AdsLiaison account .
Should we breathe a sigh of relief?
Taylor’s refutation of the AdWeek article is good news for Gemini users. However, is it too soon to breathe a sigh of relief? After all, we all know that running AI models for the public to use consumes a ton of resources. It also requires massive server farms, all of which does not come cheap.
Sure, Google has paid plans for its AI features, but like many other AI companies, it’s hard to profit from it. Companies like OpenAI are projecting losses of $5 billion a year , which means that while they do get revenue from subscriptions, it still isn’t enough to be considered profitable.
This means that at some point, Google will need to find a better way to monetize AI services like Gemini, or risk creating a product that does nothing but burn a hole in its wallet. This also means that while ads aren’t coming now, we wouldn’t be surprised if they did in the future.
