Samsung’s Galaxy XR offers users the opportunity to experience Google’s Android XR platform, which went official last year. The company (Samsung) even shared a series of videos showing off its technological prowess. Now at The Android Show, the Mountain View tech giant is sharing more about the type of hardware that one can expect from Android XR. It has also shared the first look at XREAL’s Project Aura wired XR glasses.
Here’s our first look at XREAL Project Aura smart glasses
XREAL Project Aura is the first Android XR device in the wired XR glasses category. The motive here is to have a lighter pair of glasses that are comfortable to wear for longer hours. A lot of this is made possible by offloading a significant amount of computing needs to a tethered “puck.” We can see the compute puck in the background in the images shared by Google.
Since these resemble traditional glasses instead of a full-scale VR headset, it’s obvious that you don’t get a fully immersive VR experience. What you will get is a 70-degree field of view and optical see-through technology that layers digital content directly on your view of the physical world. This gives a large, private screen to place multiple windows, allowing you to take your workspace or entertainment with you without blocking out the surroundings.

Launch slated for 2026
Android Authority notes that the XREAL project Aura is essentially a 1:1 recreation of the Galaxy XR. It has the same operating system, Android XR, and uses the same Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2. It utilizes the same gesture controls through hand tracking and supports all the same apps. The wired XR smart glasses should be a more suitable option for travelers. Wearing a relatively lightweight pair of glasses on a plane would be a better alternative to a full-blown VR headset.
Key details about the XREAL Project Aura are under wraps, for now. We don’t have its retail name, price, or the exact release date at the moment. Google confirms that it’ll share more details about the wearable’s launch in 2026.
