xAI’s Grok chatbot is making it even easier to jump straight into conversation. Grok for Android recently rolled out a convenient home screen widget, giving users instant, one-tap access to its core features without navigating through the main app . This addition directly addresses a common request from Android folks.
Lara Lu, a member of the Grok development team, confirmed the new feature on X . She invited users to check it out. “You asked, and so I’m giving you widget for Grok Android,” she wrote, urging users to upgrade to v1.0.75 to “gain one tap access to Chat, Imagine, and Voice.”
Grok Android widget delivers instant access to Chat, Imagine, and Voice
If you are a regular Android user who relies on the Google app widget, Grok’s version will look quite familiar. It presents as an elongated bar that sits directly on your home screen. Tapping the bar instantly pulls up the chat interface, ready for you to input your prompt or query directly to Grok.
The widget goes beyond simple text input. It includes quick-access shortcuts for Grok’s other functions, such as image-based searches (“Imagine”) and audio input (“Voice”).

Customization is also part of the package. Like many Android widgets, you can adjust its size to better fit on your home screen layout. Changing the size automatically adjusts and reorders the available buttons to ensure that Chat, Imagine, and Voice remain accessible regardless of the widget’s dimensions.
A small initial snag
Early users who installed the widget quickly pointed out a small snag. Currently, the “Voice” button doesn’t consistently open the correct voice input feature. Sometimes it just triggers the main Grok app instead.
Thankfully, the Grok development team acted fast. Lara Lu confirmed receiving the feedback and assured users that a fix for this tiny hiccup will arrive in the very next app update.
