A major data leak has appeared on the underground forums. A hacker is claiming to have access to about two billion Discord messages. They’re even ready to put the data for sale. The leaked Discord Messages include both private and non-private information of the users, such as chat logs, voice sessions, user data, and community data.
Nearly two billion messages have been leaked from Discord
Discord is a popular communication app that can be used for voice chats, group chats, and video calls. It is mainly used by gamers and tech enthusiasts worldwide. There are two types of servers in the app: private and public. Public servers’ messages can be accessed by anyone as it’s available on a single search. The current data leak might contain much of the public servers’ data.
Security researchers at CyberNews have found an ad on a hacking forum. And as per the information, the leaked Discord data contains a total of 1.8 billion texts , 207 million voice records, details of nearly 35 million users, and data from over 6,000 servers. The hackers are offering complete access to this data for an undisclosed price.
Discord has not yet acknowledged the data leak
This isn’t actually the first time such things have happened with Discord . Last year, the platform had to shut down a similar spyware called Spy.Pet. This spyware would capture data from the platform, such as chats, voice, and users’ data, and would then try to sell it on a hacker forum. Accounts linked to such spyware were also banned and were threatened with legal action.
However, for the current leaked Discord messages, there have been no updates from the company so far. But for the users, the risk is serious. Hackers can use this data for identity theft, phishing scams, or targeted attacks. Until Discord takes an action against the vulnerability, users are advised to check their privacy settings and refrain from clicking on unknown links.
