If you’re thinking the iPhone 17 Pro Max is expensive, the leading online retailer in China, JD, has launched what could be the most expensive accessory for it. The retailer has unveiled an exclusive series of pure gold cases for the iPhone 17 Pro Max , called the “Au 99.99 Gold” case. In fact, they’re significantly more expensive than the phone itself. However, you can’t really buy these cases for your Apple phone, as they are limited to China.
iPhone 17 Pro Max pure gold cases will be exclusive to China
JD is offering the cases in several versions, or rather, different weights of gold. Customers will have multiple options, including 10 grams, 20 grams, 30 grams, 50 grams, and 100 grams. All cases are of pure gold. The case images, shared on X, show that the back has the engraving of “Fine Gold” and the weight of the gold case, for example, “100 grams.”
These cases will definitely elevate the look of your iPhone 17 Pro Max, but they are exclusive to China. Considering the rising cost of gold globally, these can also be a good investment. That is, if you really care for that and have funds to spare.

They’re not cheap
The iPhone 17 Pro Max pure gold cases are quite expensive. The 10-gram case reportedly costs RMB 11,299 (~ $1,623), the 20-gram case will retail for RMB 22,499 (~ $3,231), and the 30-gram case is priced at RMB 33,699 (~ $4,840). The 50-gram case costs RMB 56,199 (~ $8,070), and lastly, the 100-gram case will retail for RMB 112,299 (~ $16,126).
iPhones getting the gold treatment is not new. While the iPhone 17 Pro Max is getting the gold treatment with an external case here, Caviar offers fully customized iPhones with 24K gold materials. Last year, it unveiled the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air special edition models with 24K gold material. As you’d expect, these are significantly more expensive than the standard models.
