After years of waiting, Motorola has finally come out with its own book-style foldable. Here at CES, they are not formally announcing the Motorola Razr Fold, but instead just teasing it for us. So Motorola has not released many specs on this device, but we do know the display and camera specs here, which include a triple 50MP setup.

Ahead of CES, I was able to go hands-on with the new Razr Fold, and honestly, I’m in love.

Here in the US, we are really in need of some foldable competition. We are essentially down to just the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. Which are both pretty good foldables, but when you’ve gotten a taste of what the Chinese OEMs are doing with foldables, it really spoils your opinion on Samsung and Google’s options. And that’s where Motorola could come in – technically, they are a Chinese company now.

The Motorola Razr Fold has all of the design cues of Motorola’s other devices. With the camera setup in the left corner, it’s a pretty thick one too, actually. It also has that industry look that I really like. And of course, it wouldn’t be Motorola without using some PANTONE colors and different textures for the backing of the Razr Fold.

So the Motorola Razr Fold is coming in two colors – PANTONE Blackened Blue and PANTONE Lily White. The Blackened Blue is mostly black with a bit of blue in there, and it has a ballistic nylon feel to it. A lot like the old Droid Razr Ultra from many moons ago. The Lily White is a soft-touch finish that looks and feels very premium.

Very small crease on the 8.1-inch main display

This is an early version of the Razr Fold, since Motorola is not planning to launch it until the Summer, but from what we saw already on the main display, that crease is not that noticeable, fortunately.

This is not a surprise, since the crease is barely noticeable on the Razr flip phones. So seeing that on the book-style foldable is pretty much what we expected. It is still very glossy, which is going to be the case until manufacturers figure out how to use something other than plastic for these folding displays.

Unfortunately, we do have to wait until the Summer for the Razr Fold to be formally announced, and made available. Motorola hasn’t shared any details about the battery, processor, pricing, or anything. But they did say that this is their most premium device that just so happens to fold. So I’m expecting them to go all-out on the specs. Including using a Silicon-Carbon battery, since they are using that in the Motorola Signature and a few other devices already.
