Apple’s much-awaited iPhone 17 launch event could happen in early September. Going by the leaks, there are some notable upgrades and improvements in the pipeline, fingers crossed on the ProMotion display for the standard iPhone 17 . A sketchy new hands-on video of an iPhone 17 dummy inside a liquid silicone case has now leaked. While this shows a familiar design for the iPhone, the case has two small holes in the corners that could be for a lanyard loop.
The iPhone 17 Liquid Silicone case is quite minimal
The video leak comes from Majin Bu , who previously shared the color options of the entire iPhone 17 family. This new leak comes after the tipster said that Apple will introduce new ‘Liquid Silicone’ cases for the upcoming flagships. It’s unclear if the case leak comes from Majin Bu or if it was outsourced.
The earlier leaked liquid silicone iPhone cases looked quite bulky, with a distinguished wave pattern, and similar cutouts at the corners. The design of these is far from Apple’s usual minimalist look. However, the new video leak lacks the wave pattern design. Instead, it is quite clean and is more in line with Apple’s design choices.
Having said that, it’s still not clear if the new leak pans out. The video isn’t conclusive enough to suggest that this is coming officially from Apple, as we see no branding.
The silicone case could be from a third-party casemaker
Another reason to doubt the authenticity of the leak is that the earlier leaked cases have a camera control cutout. In comparison, Apple’s own iPhone 16 accessories support Camera Control without any holes. The Beats iPhone 16 MagSafe case depends on a small sapphire crystal and a conductive layer to transmit finger presses and swipes to the Camera Control button.
There are chances the case in the leak could be coming from a third-party case maker who is banking on the iOS 26’s ‘Liquid Glass’ branding. But then again, it’s also possible Apple may surprise us with such a case at the launch. We will have our answer in a couple of weeks, hopefully.
