Unlike Samsung, Apple never had the misfortune of its phones running too hot to the point where it exploded and caught on fire. Sure, there have been a few incidents, but nothing on the scale of the Note 7. However, this doesn’t mean that Apple can’t improve on overall cooling. Now, thanks to a new leak shared on X by pipfix, the iPhone 17 Pro Max vapor chamber has been revealed .
iPhone 17 Pro Max vapor chamber revealed
In a drawing posted onto X, pipfix revealed that is alleged the vapor chamber that is being used by the iPhone 17 Pro Max . The drawing itself doesn’t really show too much, but it is supposedly the vapor chamber component of the phone.
In case you’re hearing about this for the first time, a recent rumor suggested Apple might upgrade the cooling system of its iPhone 17 Pro models . At the moment, Apple relies on graphite and metal sheets to cool its iPhones. It’s functional, but it’s not necessarily perfect. If you’ve ever used an iPhone and felt it run hotter than you’d like, that’s probably because it’s working overtime and the current cooling system can’t keep up.
By utilizing a vapor chamber, Apple could push the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max to the extremes. Apple will most likely debut the A19 Pro chipset in its new phones. The use of a vapor chamber means that the chipset will be able to sustain its performance. This means you can game longer, watch movies longer, and it could also benefit on-device AI-related tasks.
Apple wouldn’t be the first
If the rumors are true, Apple wouldn’t be the first to use the technology. We’ve seen vapor chamber tech used in other smartphones before . The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is one of them.
But why is this a big deal? A vapor chamber is essentially a thin and sealed metal container that holds a tiny amount of liquid inside. When the phone gets hot, the liquid turns into vapor. That vapor then spreads out to dissipate the heat before it condenses back into liquid. This process is repeated multiple times until the phone has been sufficiently cooled.
On paper it sounds effective. However, we’ll have to get our hands on the phone to see how it handles in real life. Apple will officially announce its new iPhones at an event next week .
