Usually when the speakers start to hiss and crackle, you know something’s not right. That’s an issue that iPhone 17 Pro owners are facing where they’re noticing a speaker hiss while their phone is charging.
iPhone 17 Pro experiencing speaker hiss when charging
According to multiple reports from Reddit, the MacRumors forums, and Apple’s own Support Community, users are noticing a hiss coming from the speaker of the iPhone 17 Pro. The original post on Reddit by u/AreciboMessage reads, “When the phone is plugged in and charging, try this: play any audio (a song, Instagram Reel, TikTok, etc.), turn the volume all the way down to mute, and put your ear close to the bottom speaker. You’ll hear a faint static, buzzing, or hissing sound—kind of like an old radio.”
The good news is that this appears to only affect the Pro and Pro Max models. Those who own the iPhone 17 are not running into this issue, or if they are, there have been no reports.
What can you do about it?
Right now, until Apple acknowledges that this is a software bug or hardware defect, there’s nothing you can do to fix it yourself. However, some owners have managed to swap their devices for a new one, which apparently solves the problem. But then, it’s not a guaranteed fix. Other owners who have swapped their devices report that the issue persists across multiple models.
This speaker issue is just one of several complaints users have had about the iPhone 17 Pro series. When the phone launched, many were quick to notice that the phone was easily discolored and were more prone to scratches. However, despite these issues, the iPhone 17 series has sold pretty well, outperforming its predecessor in markets like the US and China.
