The latest iPhone 16e is not the wisest purchase on paper. Its dated notch, not-so-powerful hardware, and limited features make it look compromised next to rivals. However, a recent leak suggests that the upcoming iPhone 17e will feature a Dynamic Island display and the A19 chipset. This step alone will address some of the key compromises of the predecessor.

A new leak suggests iPhone 17e to flaunt the Dynamic Island

As per the tipster Smart Pikachu, the iPhone 17e will finally replace the outdated notch with Apple’s pill-shaped Dynamic Island cutout. This change alone would make the device look much more similar to the latest iPhones , at least from the front. The Dynamic Island is popular for an interactive status area that displays live activities and alerts. It also looks much more modern compared to the long-standing notch.

The tipster also claims that Apple will use an underclocked version of the A19 chip in the iPhone 17e. While not positioned as a flagship processor, its performance could sit close to the A17 Pro. For reference, the iPhone 16e uses an A18 chipset with a down-clocked GPU. The 17e should handle most mobile games at medium graphics, if the leaks are true.

It might launch in the spring this year

Another popular tipster, Digital Chat Station, had earlier hinted at similar specifications. However, there is some confusion as well. Some early reports indicated that Apple may reuse the same iPhone 14-based OLED panel found in the iPhone 16e, possibly with slimmer bezels. If the company uses the same panel, then the chances of the Dynamic Island cutout become less certain.

Moving forward, Smart Pikachu also claims that mass production will begin shortly after CES, pointing to a spring launch window. Early reports had claimed that the pricing would remain unchanged at $599. However, the pricing may be changed due to the increasing global memory shortage. Also, do note that the track record of the particular leaker with Apple products is limited.
