Apple had introduced a new capacitive button, called the Camera Control button, with the iPhone 16 series. It is going to be carried forward in the 2025 iPhone 17 lineup as well. However, new information suggests that the company is planning to drop the camera control switch from the iPhone 18.

No more camera control button on the iPhone 18, claims tipster

As per a claim made by a tipster “ OvO OvO OvO OvO ” on Weibo, Apple will skip the camera control switch on the iPhone 18. Per the tipster, the tech giant has informed its official suppliers that it won’t be continuing to order the camera control switch (or the component). The reason behind the shift is said to be low engagement among users. Removing it also saves some money for the brand.

While the claim certainly feels true, the tipster in question has no proven record whatsoever. No reliable source has been added to back up the claim. This further makes us question the reliability of the information. It would be best to take the shared information with a pinch of salt. At least until we hear more about the claim.

Apple might not skip the camera control button because of the costs

The camera control switch was added to the iPhone 16 with the motive to give an advanced way to control the camera. It has received mixed reviews from the users. Many users have praised it because of the tactile controls and a resemblance to professional cameras. However, a bunch of users have said that it’s a useless addition and that it fails to do its original work well.

A very minor portion of the user base seems to be using the camera control button. However, Apple has been mostly aware of this fact in advance. Still, it’s unlikely that the company will phase out the camera control button from the iPhone 18. Since the iPhone 17 hasn’t even launched yet, it’s too early to predict whether Apple will keep or drop the camera control button in the iPhone 18 .
