iPhone 18 could feature three different processors
Based on Apple’s naming scheme, next year’s chipsets are expected to be called the A20. There will be a base A20 chipset, and an A20 Pro chipset, but what about the third iPhone 18 processor? It turns out, Apple could utilize the same strategy it used for its iPhone 17 series , which also has three different versions of the A19 chip.
Apple’s marketing tells us there is an A19 and an A19 Pro. The A19 can be found in the base iPhone 17 , while the A19 Pro is used in the iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. However, did you know that the A19 Pro in the iPhone Air is slightly different? It features a 5-core GPU instead of the 6-core GPU found in the Pro and Pro Max iPhones.
Apparently this could be the same configuration Apple is planning for its 2026 iPhones. There will be a base A20, which will feature a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU. Then, there will be an A20 Pro with a 6-core GPU, obviously. And then an even more powerful A20 Pro, which will offer peak performance. We’re not sure which version of the A20 will be used for which iPhone. We’ll have to wait and see.
Other iPhone 18 rumors so far
Now, it might be a bit too soon to start confirming rumors. But the iPhone 18 rumor mill has already started, thanks to a new post on Weibo by Instant Digital . Head’s up, there might be some bad news for those who are looking forward to an under-display front-facing camera or Face ID.
The tipster claims that the iPhone 18 will feature a smaller Dynamic Island. However, they state that there are no plans to introduce an under-display camera or Face ID . We’ve been hearing these rumors for a while now. Earlier rumors suggested that the iPhone 18 could feature some sort of under-display Face ID tech. Then the 2027 iPhone will ditch Dynamic Island entirely.
If Apple is this far behind, it looks like it might not be able to pull off that all-display 20th anniversary iPhone we’ve been hearing about.
