Next year, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 18. However, more eyes are on Apple’s 2027 plans. That’s because 2027 marks the 20th anniversary of the iPhone, and if the rumors are right, Apple has something big up their sleeves. According to the latest rumors, the iPhone 20 could be the first iPhone (or smartphone) to feature a bezel-less display .
iPhone 20 could sport bezel-less display
Achieving the bezel-less look is something many smartphone makers have been chasing for years. However, no one’s truly achieved that yet. Most phone makers have shrunk the bezels, but it’s still pretty obvious. However, a report from South Korea claims that the iPhone 20 could actually achieve a bezel-less display.
The report claims that the device will feature four corners with a bending shape . This is achieved by using TFE (think-film encapsulation). This is to prevent moisture build up in the OLED area. Also, what’s interesting is that the report suggests that Samsung might not be the supplier of the display tech.
Instead, that could go to LG. Samsung is expected to supply the display panels for Apple’s 2026 foldable iPhone , but for the 20th anniversary model, Apple could turn to LG. In fact, LG is considering investing nearly $300 million to achieve this design for Apple, and could make some pretty major modifications to its production line as well.
Not the first time we’ve heard this rumor
Believe it or not, this is actually not the first time we’re hearing rumors that the iPhone 20 could sport a brand new radical design. The latest rumors are saying that the device might go button-free . This is also something we heard about a few years ago, where companies were rumored to be testing out button-free smartphones.
However, in order for Apple to achieve a bezel-free iPhone, the company needs to solve issues like Face ID and the front-facing camera. Last we heard, Apple will slowly transition into that. The iPhone 18 is rumored to come with in-screen Face ID , so presumably, the iPhone 20 is when Apple could debut an in-display front-facing camera as well.
Front-facing cameras aren’t new. We’ve seen a few Android makers try their hand at it. However, the tech is far from perfect. Picture quality from these cameras leave a lot to be desired. Will Apple be able to accomplish what others have failed? We’ll have to wait and see.
