Apple’s first attempt at an ultra-slim phone, the iPhone Air , wasn’t very fruitful. Though it turned heads initially, the sales were reportedly disappointing. At a certain stage, there were even rumors that Apple delayed the successor indefinitely. As time progressed, we started hearing how Apple is on a course correction route with some notable upgrades. However, a new leak now claims the iPhone Air 2 will only bring minor upgrades.

The second-generation model could launch in 2026

Keeping aside the upgrades for the moment, there’s some confusion surrounding the iPhone Air 2 launch timeline. This is because there have been contradicting reports, with some reporting a 2027 launch, while others are sticking to 2026 . Weibo tipster, Fixed Focus Digital, now claims that Apple will launch the second-generation iPhone Air later this year.

The leaker, citing feedback coming from the production line, says that the iPhone Air 2 will launch in the fall, possibly alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models and the brand’s first foldable. Like with other reports, we’ll only know if this is true in the coming months.

iPhone Air 2 may bring minor upgrades

Now for the upgrades, the leaker says the iPhone Air 2 will have “very minor changes.” Having said that, a report from The Information in November, which first reported about the delay of a second-gen model until 2027, said that the company will use the delay to work on upgrades. This will include a new design to accommodate a second rear camera, vapor chamber cooling, and even a large battery.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman responded to the reports in November, claiming his sources noted that the iPhone Air 2 was not really delayed . This is because Apple didn’t earmark the iPhone Air 2 for 2026 at all. The iPhone Air 2 is believed to roll out in Spring 2027 alongside the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, as a part of the new split-launch strategy. Gurman’s sources said that the main focus on the successor will be on a move to a 2nm chip. This is to improve the battery life, instead of any major structural changes.

Time will only tell when the iPhone Air 2 will launch, and whether it’ll bring the upgrades we’re hoping for.
